Mavis Hawa Koomson, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, has committed to ensuring a peaceful election in her constituency during the upcoming December polls.
The Awutu Senya East constituency witnessed a violent incident during the 2020 elections at the Steps to Christ Centre, where gunfire erupted, resulting in injuries and nearly disrupting the electoral process.
Following a march through key areas of the constituency, the MP reaffirmed her dedication to maintaining peace and avoiding any form of violence in the upcoming elections. Since the 2020 incident, Hawa Koomson has consistently emphasized her resolve to ensure a fair and peaceful election in 2024.
Leading a large group through the streets of Kasoa, she advocated for peace as the elections approach. Addressing the crowd, Hawa Koomson stated her commitment to a violence-free election.
“2024 is an election year, and as NPP faithful, we are gearing up for the big event. On Monday, the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will be visiting the constituency to commission some projects. These are all some of the good things about the NPP. I will be filing my nomination, so I needed to gather the NPP supporters ahead of that day. But I must also say that as MP, I am committed to ensuring peaceful elections in December.
“Even if my opponent comes with violence, I will resist to ensure a peaceful process. We are ready for the 2024 elections, and they must be free from violence or confrontation. As the incumbent, I understand that my opponents aim to unseat me, but I am determined to win the elections decisively,” she said.
Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, praised Hawa Koomson’s accomplishments and urged constituents to continue supporting her.
“The people of Kasoa are fortunate to have Mavis Hawa Koomson as their MP because she is doing an excellent job. She was the Minister for Special Development Initiative and ensured that every constituency received an ambulance. Her success in that role led President Akufo-Addo to appoint her as the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development. She has transformed Kasoa, and she deserves another term in Parliament to continue bringing positive changes to Awutu Senya East,” Jinapor said.
