Dutch Eredivisie giant AFC Ajax Amsterdam head coach Maurice Steijn is hoping Ghana’s star player Mohammed Kudus will stay at the club for at least another season amidst interest from Premier League teams in England.
The coach hopes to convince the star player to extend his expiring contract with the Red and Whites outfit at least for another year with Chelsea latest to show concrete interest in signing the midfielder.
“He has exceptional qualities. I hope he stays, he is perhaps our best player at the moment. If he stays, it would also give the rest a huge boost”, Steijn said to VI on Saturday.
“I have the feeling that if he stays for another year, the real top will come for him. Now it is just a bit below that. He would very much like to make a transfer himself. He has also indicated this to the management.”
“If we win the league and he scores 20 goals, clubs will pay double for him. This is what we are trying to tell him now”
Kudus, under contract to Ajax until 2025, rejected a one-year extension in April and is keen to leave the Johan Cruyff Arena.
The 22-year-old scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for Ajax last season.
He also scored twice for Ghana in a 3-2 win against South Korea in the group stages of the World Cup in Qatar in November.
