A large crowd greets the Asante Monarch, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as he arrived at the Kumasi Airport at about 15.00GMT Tuesday.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was in Washington DC, the capital of the United States, for an official visit.
The Asantehene, who was in that country for several high-profile engagements also addressed the Assembly of the United Nations on September 13.
The forum marked the 25th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration and Program of Action in New York and the African Union in Washington DC.
Hundreds, who had come from far and near—cheered His Majesty on, reflecting Asante’s obsession with the Kingdom.
Among them was Kofi Fosu, 19, who said: “We love the King. We just admire him. He is an idol for everyone. We are all fascinated by him. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a living legend like the King.”
Asked why he admired him, Fosu said: “He is just the King! He is always polite, he has been there for over two decades and never done anything wrong. He is just great.”
Others shouted: “We love you Your Majesty” and “Piawww!” – as the King’s long convoy mazed through the principal streets of Kumasi.
Otumfuo’s Nsumankwaahene, Baffour Kugyawaasu III, in an interview with DailymailGH.com, said the Asantehene is a symbol of prosperity and a great asset to the Asante Kingdom, Ghana and the entire Africa continent.
“He is for all of us. I pray for long life for the King,” the Chief Priest said, adding, “He has made Asanteman proud”.
Several Paramount Chiefs and government appointees also thronged the Manhyia Palace —the official seat of the Asante Kingdom, to wish the King well.
