The suspect driver who reportedly run an assembly vehicle over a merchant at Dzolo-Gbogame in the Ho West District has been arrested, officials say.

He reportedly turned himself in and has since been detained to assist investigations, Police in the Volta Region said Wednesday.

“Thankfully enough, the one who was responsible for this incident has actually reported himself to the police and is currently assisting us in our investigations,” said the Volta Regional Police Public Relations Officer Corporal Prince Dogbatse on Accra-based Citi FM, monitored by Dailymailgh.

The police are yet to come out with a definite account of what caused the death of the resident, who has been identified as 32-year-old, Wisdom Dake, because of conflicting accounts from the ground.

“There are bits and pieces of information out there but we need to refine it to give credible information to the public,” Corporal Dogbatse said.

Violence flared up after irate youth went on rampage setting cars ablaze and destroying several properties at the Ho West District Assembly.

The aggrieved youth poured out their anger following the death of the deceased who was run over by an assembly vehicle during an ensuing struggle with revenue collectors.

Armed police officers have since taken over the assembly building pointing to planned further attacks.

It is expected that an emergency security council meeting would be held for further action.
