Security agencies in the Ashanti Region have arrested ten students following a violent protest that erupted at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) over the weekend.
Riot police were called in Sunday night after students went on rampage destroying a number of properties in the school.
It is gathered that a confrontation between some students and a housemaster triggered the disturbances during prep hours.
The development had partly affected academic work when DailymailGH visited on Monday.
Manhyia Divisional Commander, ACP Kwaku Buah, told reporters that investigations have begun.
“What we have gathered from the grounds is that some students refused to wear a prescribed uniform during prep hours so the housemasters attempted to enforce the directive. This didn’t go down well with the students and that is how they started causing damage in the school. From the dormitory through the departments to the housemaster’s bungalow; it is quite extensive”, ACP Kwaku Buah told reporters on Monday.
He indicated that a housemaster who got injured in the process is responding to treatment at the hospital.
Administrators of the school would however not give any further comments over the development as they raced with time to decide on any further action.
The Kumasi Technical Institute has been in the news over lawless displays in recent times— a development authorities say could jeopardize academic work of students if not checked.
In 2017, some rowdy students blocked road in front of the school, created an artificial traffic during the celebration of a fourth position chalked by the school in an Inter-School competition – the biggest sports festival for students.
But it later turned bloody after the students clashed with riot police officers who were called to maintain order.
Over 20 students were arrested in the process while the injured were referred to various hospitals for treatment.
