A man who reportedly stabbed his wife to death over food has confessed to the police that he was drank at the time he committed the crime.

Joseph Yaw Peprah, 55, who also admitted to committing the crime had told the police that he would have killed himself if he knew his wife was dead.

The incident reportedly happened at Ananekrom in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region at about 8:30pm on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

An incident report sighted by Dailymailgh.com stated that the suspect stabbed his wife Gladys Oforiwaa with a knife following a misunderstanding between the couple over food meant for dinner on that fateful day.

Multiple media reports had also suggested that the suspect became infuriated after the victim cooked rice porridge instead of his favourite ‘fufu’, a local delicacy, as a dinner.

The deceased, who sustained multiple stab wounds at the left armpit during a struggle with the suspect, was rushed to the Ananekrom Health Center. She was later pronounced dead by medics when she was referred to the Agogo Government Hospital for further treatment.

The suspect, who went at large after committing the crime, was later arrested at his hideout at Ananekrom, District Commander, DSP James Amekah told Kumasi-based Otec FM.

He said the weapon used to commit the crime has been retrieved from the suspect and kept as exhibit.

“He is currently in custody, we will prepare him for court soonest for him to be remanded pending further investigations”, DSP Amekah said in an interview monitored by Dailymailgh.com.

The body of the deceased had been deposited at the Agogo Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy at the time of filing this report.
