Tension is simmering in the Police Service following the transfer of controversial senior Police officers Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare to the CID Headquarters and the Judicial protection Unit respectively by the Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohonu.

The two officers sparked public anger following their involvement in the leaked tape incident regarding the plot to remove the former inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

“This development is unfortunate. It should not be happening especially as the beginning of a mandate of a new IGP. It sends the wrong signal, it suggests the IGP endorses indiscipline and that is not good for the service,” a Senior Police source bemoaned.

The subsequent appearance and conduct of the two officers before the parliamentary committee that probed the matter triggered public concerns over their professionalism as Police officers.

Subsequently the parliamentary committee recommended that they are punished by the Police Service.

That nonetheless, the new IGP has, in what some police officers term as promotion, transferred the two officers from their various stations to rather sensitive positions.

The development, according to sources, is creating rancor in the service as some believe the transfer appears more of endorsement of the misconduct and unprofessional behavior of the two officers.

Sources say some officers are also concerned about what the development means for discipline in the service.
