Ghanaian defender Godfred Asante is pleased with his first CAF Champions League goal for Guinean giants AC Horoya.

The towering central defender opened the scoring for his side on Saturday at the Modibo Keita Sports Stadium in Bamako with a sweet finish in the 48th minute before Stade Malien fought back to pull even with just three minutes to full time.

Asante mentioned that to score in Africa’s prestigious club tournament is one of the greatest moments in his career though he admitted the game was tough.

“To score in the champions league is something I will always cherish. I was so excited and it was a joyful moment for me,” Asante told Dailymailgh.com

“It was a very tough game, especially as we are in a competition like this and our domestic league has not started. We are glad with the draw and we are going back home to prepare for them (Stade Malien).”

He added: “Knowing that they have nothing to lose, they will come at us in full force in Conakry and it will be tough but we will surely qualify to the next stage.”

Asante joined AC Horoya from Dreams FC last year and has been resolute at the back for the Guinean champions.
