The national chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has denied sponsoring a New Patriotic Party parliamentary hopeful Kwesi Poku Bosompem to win the Tema West seat.
A few days ago, Lord Hamah, a former Propaganda Secretary of the NDC who has decided to help Bosompem win the Tema West Parliamentary primary issued congratulatory message to his party’s leading members who he says have answered his call for sponsorship for Bosompem and contributed handsomely to the campaign.
“Special thanks to our National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for his contribution, and also to Kempes Ofosuware for promptly reaching out with his contribution immediately I called for the contribution,” Hamah said in a statement.
He added: “I also congratulate all the other members of the party who continue to bring their widows’ mite towards the Kwesi Poku campaign, I assure them that the effort to help our party’s good friend in this his time of need will not go in vein, we will make him the Candidate of Tema West NPP for 2020.”
However, in a statement, the NDC national chairman has denied supporting his opponent financially.
“The attention of the National Democratic Congress has been drawn to an article on Ghanaweb that asserts that the National Chairman and other NDC members have contributed funds towards the campaign of an aspiring parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party in the Tema West Constituency.
“By this statement Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo totally denies the said allegation in its entirety and demands an unconditional apology and an immediate retraction of the story.
“And we call on similar news media and websites to treat the story with contempt as same is unfounded and baseless,” the director of communications of the NDC, Kakra Essamuah, said in a statement copied to DailyMailGH.com.
