Inaki Williams continued his fine form in the UEFA Europa League, getting on the scoresheet once again, but his effort was not enough as Athletic Club suffered a 2-1 loss to AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
The 30-year-old forward was a constant threat on the right wing, using his speed and dribbling ability to put pressure on Roma’s defense. His persistence paid off in the 50th minute, as he broke the deadlock to register his fifth goal in the competition. His impressive display earned him a 7.6 rating on Sofascore.
However, Athletic Club’s lead was short-lived, with Angeliño leveling the score just six minutes later. As the match neared its conclusion, Eldor Shomurodov netted a late winner for Roma, leaving Williams and his side with a tough challenge in the second leg.
Williams and his teammates must now produce a strong performance at Estadio San Mamés next week, needing at least a two-goal margin to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
So far in the UEFA Europa League, Inaki Williams has been a standout performer, contributing five goals and one assist in nine appearances.
