The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has unveiled plans to establish a state-of-the-art Farmers’ Service Center in Ejura to boost agricultural productivity and efficiency in the Ejura-Sekyeredumasi Constituency. This predominantly farming area is one of the four constituencies currently held by the NDC in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at a campaign rally during the first day of his six-day tour of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Mahama emphasized the need for equitable farming practices and announced the introduction of a fair measurement system to ensure fairness in grain and cereal sales. “We’ll establish a Farmers’ Service Centre. Fifteen tractors and other farming tools will be stationed here. Farmers would be required to register for tractors. If you request a tractor to work on your farm, it will be granted. If you need fertiliser, you will go to the Farmers’ Service Center, where all your farm inputs will be delivered,” he explained.
To enhance trading activities in the constituency, he pledged to construct a modern market in Ejura. Additionally, he announced plans to establish a branch of the Women’s Development Bank to support women entrepreneurs with financial aid. He added, “We will abolish the use of size 5 in measuring the prices of bags of maize. We will introduce size 4. We will also build a new Ejura market. We will establish one of the Women’s Development Bank centres here in Ejura.”
Mr. Mahama also addressed concerns of religious inclusivity, promising that an NDC government would grant two public holidays for Muslims during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, doubling the current single day. “The next NDC government would grant two holidays for Muslims during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations instead of the current single day,” he assured.
Beyond Ejura, the former president committed to establishing another Farmers’ Service Center in Wiomoase, in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency, to revitalize farming activities. He also highlighted plans to attract investors to set up factories in the constituency, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and stimulating the local economy. Concluding his address, he urged constituents to avoid “skirt and blouse” voting, saying, “We don’t want any ‘skirt and blouse.’ Vote in unity for both the NDC parliamentary candidate and the presidential ticket to strengthen the party’s impact.”
