Black Stars coach Otto Addo has shared that Jordan Ayew hopes to see his older brother, Andre Ayew, return to the national team camp following Andre’s omission from the latest squad.
Despite Andre Ayew’s commendable performance with Le Havre in Ligue 1, where he netted six goals in 20 matches to help the club avoid relegation, he was not included in the recent squad. This exclusion has ignited discussions about the future of the 34-year-old player.
In the absence of his brother, Jordan Ayew stepped up significantly in Ghana’s recent World Cup qualifying matches. The Crystal Palace forward played a pivotal role in Ghana’s victory over Mali, coming off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner, breaking the Black Stars’ eight-game winless streak.
Jordan’s impressive performance secured him a starting position in the subsequent match against the Central African Republic (CAR), where he scored a hat-trick, leading Ghana to a thrilling 4-3 victory. This achievement marked Ghana’s first consecutive wins since September 2023.
When questioned about Andre Ayew’s absence, Otto Addo spoke on Jordan’s behalf, stating, “Let me talk for Jordan. It’s his brother. Sure, he wants him to be next to him, but what will happen: it’s my decision, it’s our coaching staff’s decision.
“As a brother, he would like him to be next to him. But, I have a responsibility for the national team, for Ghana, and I have to decide what is best for the team, and who knows? Maybe he’s there, maybe not, but I don’t know.”
The Black Stars are currently aiming to secure their place in the 2026 World Cup, with their recent victories significantly enhancing their position in the qualifiers. Ghana stands second in their group with nine points, having won three out of four games.
