Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, has formally demanded an unqualified apology and GH₵10 million in compensation from the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye.
The demand was issued through a legal notice dated April 3, 2025, by R.O. Solomon Consulting. The letter accuses Abronye of making “false, reckless, and malicious” statements during an interview aired on Net 2 TV on March 26, 2025.
According to the notice, Abronye claimed on national television that Mrs. Mogtari was dissuaded from pursuing a ministerial position and instead accepted what he described as a “stress-free presidential staffer position” with a monthly salary of GH₵95,000. He allegedly further asserted that this role had made her “disrespectful to Ghanaians.”
The legal team noted that these comments have since gone viral, especially on major platforms like GhanaWeb, and have subjected Mrs. Mogtari to “serious embarrassment,” ridicule, and damage to her reputation. They highlighted the growing number of inquiries and negative commentary she has faced both personally and professionally as a result.
The letter emphasized that Abronye’s claims were not only baseless but also easily verifiable, stating that information regarding Mrs. Mogtari’s appointment is publicly accessible and should have been checked before making such accusations.
In response to the reputational harm caused, the legal team is demanding two key actions:
- A full retraction and public apology to be published on all platforms where the statements were shared, including Net 2 TV, GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, and Citi FM.
- Payment of GH₵10 million in compensation for the damage inflicted on Mrs. Mogtari’s public image and personal integrity.
