A 912 kilowatts solar installation has begun at the Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s presidency.

The Energy Ministry said on Friday that the solar panel is expected to power the seat of government by 60 percent.

Sector Minister, John Peter Amewu, who toured the facility on behalf of the President, is quoted by Citi FM that the project will be completed by June 2020.

“We expect that it will be completed in six months. So depending on the speed with which the engineers are working, it should be done before July. I have that assurance to Ghanaians. The capacity I am told is 912 kilowatts. It will not be able to power the whole jubilee house so this will come in as a supplement”, he told reporters.

Despite being a regional and continental giants, rampant power disruptions in recent years threatened lots of businesses in Ghana.

The West African nation has long depended on hydroelectric power energy from its biggest power facility, the Akosombo Dam.

The power distributor, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has also been accused of failure to collect bills.

An investigative piece by the country’s biggest undercover journalist revealed damning findings against the ECG.

Anas Aremeyaw Ana’s work titled, ‘President Assignment —Stealing the People’s Power’, published in 2012, did a thorough probe into the ailing power sector.
