President Akufo-Addo has said from August 2019 the seat of government, Jubilee House, will be powered by solar energy.

Speaking at the 2019 State of the Nation Address (SoNA) in Parliament, he said his government is committed to move away from over-reliance on thermal energy.

“Government will leverage solar energy to reduce liabilities to ECG. The Jubilee House from August this year, will be powered by solar energy as an example to others,” Nana Akufo-Addo said.

Akufo-Addo was optimistic the increase in gas production since he took office will energise the economy.

“I’m pleased to announce that gas production tripled from 100m to 300m cubic feet in the last year.

“After many years of almost giving up, it took an NPP government to discover oil in Ghana. 13 oil blocks were signed under the NDC but not a single one was developed. The first one signed under my government has led to the second biggest oil discovery in Ghana”.

The President said he has not relented on his commitment of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

“Last year I reiterated my pledge to making Accra the cleanest City in Africa by the end of my term. There’s been a significant improvement, although I acknowledge that more can be done”.
