A court in Kasoa in the Central Region has remanded the two police officers who were involved in the shooting incident that left a 22-year-old man dead over the weekend.
The pleas of the two officers were not taken by the court presided over by Her Honour Afua Owusuaa Appiah, during their first appearance on Monday, December 9, 2019.
The suspects, Corporal Samuel Boamah and Lance Corporal Issifu are to reappear before the court on Monday, December 23, 2019.
Prosecution prayed the court to remand the suspects as it continues with investigations.
The suspects are facing trial on a provisional charge of murder, prosecutors say.
What we know so far
On Friday, December 6, 2019, the deceased named as Musah Mohammed was said to have been shot by the gun-wielding officers at JVC, a popular drinking spot at Kasoa.
A confrontation broke out between some of the customers and the suspects, Corporal Samuel Boamah of the Kasoa Rovers Unit and another officer, Lance Corporal Isifu Tahiru also of the same unit who went to the same spot to drink, a police report said.
Lance Corporal Isifu Tahiru, who had his sidearm loaded with 13 live ammunition decided to frighten the crowd by pulling out his gun in the ensuing melee.
” …In the process CPL Boamah snatched the sidearm from his counterpart, fired and killed Musah Mohanmed aged 22 years,” a police report said.
The Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh has directed that the said officers, be interdicted while police continue with investigations.
