Outspoken Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has finally joined Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his campaign trail nearly six months before the 2024 general elections.

Mr Agyapong was spotted in the Vice President’s campaign bus on Tuesday (11 June), as part of his tour of the Ashanti Region.

Addressing members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) at Suame Magazine, Agyapong emphasized the importance of electing Dr. Bawumia as the next president, promising a significant turnaround in the country’s economy under his leadership.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by businesses at the enclave, particularly the high duties at the ports, and assured that Bawumia is committed to reducing these burdens if elected.

“Our Vice President and flagbearer for the 2024 election is here. I plead with you to work hard to get him elected, and I know there will be a turnaround in the country’s economy,” Agyapong stated passionately.

He contrasted the achievements of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with those of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighting the NPP’s Free SHS initiative, which has enabled many students to pursue higher education.

“I know there’s hardship, but I know that NPP’s achievement is the Free SHS. Many students have gone to the university because of the Free SHS,” he added, urging the crowd to consider these achievements when voting.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia began his campaign on Monday, 29 April 2024, in the Eastern Region and has, since then, visited all 16 regions of the country with the Ashanti Region being the last.

Media reports say the Vice President, after the first phase of his campaign, will, from July 2024, step up his campaign activities across the country. He will also be expected to name his running mate to complete the NPP’s 2024 presidential ticket.
