Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team in the Ashanti Region has strongly responded to the threat made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, to have the flagbearer aspirant arrested.
Chairman Wontumi had, during a press conference in Kumasi earlier on Wednesday, threatened to seek legal action against Kennedy Agyapong if he issued further “threats” towards him.
At a news conference, the ‘Ken 4 President’s’ campaign team dared the NPP Chairman to carry out his threat to arrest the Assin Central MP. They argued that Chairman Wontumi lacked a valid basis for making such threats and insisted that available information suggested Chairman Wontumi had engaged in actions that warranted his own arrest.
William Kusi, the Ashanti regional campaign spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, said, “We believe that if the party has national executive members who are well-meaning and determined to ensure the party’s progress, they will pay attention to some of these misconducts and address them. This is what our candidate emphasized during his visit to Kumasi.”
Kusi continued, “Chairman Wontumi has also stated that he will cause the arrest of our candidate. I will call it a bluff and dare him to arrest our candidate. Because, before Chairman Wontumi, there have been many honorable Asante men who have faced and overcome challenges. While we respect him and his office, we urge caution. Our candidate has spoken of ‘an eye for an eye,’ so we are fully prepared.”
The tension between Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team and Chairman Wontumi appears escalated as the NPP holds its upcoming flagbearer race. The situation within the governing party continues to draw attention as the political landscape evolves.
