One more victim has died in the gory crash that occurred in-between the Kintampo-Babatokuma road on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 23.

While 21 of the victims died on the spot, two others died while receiving treatment at the Kintampo Government Hospital, the Daily Graphic reported.

Several other passengers, according to eyewitnesses, are receiving treatment at the Kintampo Government Hospital.

Six other passengers, according to the Bono East regional minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan, are in critical condition.

“It’s a very sad incident,” Gyan said after visiting the injured at the hospital on Monday (6 March). “Six are in critical condition and really need serious attention.”

The accident involved a Yendi-Kumasi bound bus, with registration number, AS 4635-22 with about 50 passengers on board along with the driver and his conductor.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus crashed into a truck loaded with tiles.

Emergency officials including the police and fire service were at the scene to save lives.

In 2020, around the same time, 35 people, including women and children, were killed when two buses collided in Kintampo, also left six people in critical condition.

Crashes are common on highways in Ghana because of poor maintenance, disregard for traffic regulations, and bad roads.

An average of six people reportedly die daily on Ghana’s roads.
