Two more suspects linked to the disturbances at the KNUST have been remanded into police custody by the Asokore Mampong District Court.

The accused persons Daniel Osei Bonsu, an alumnus and Francis Tutu Atuahene, a Level 200 student of KNUST will reappear before the court on September 8 after a push for their bail by lawyers was shot down by the court on Wednesday (August 24).

They have been charged with counts of rioting, causing harm and among others.

This brings the number of suspects arrested to three. Last Thursday’s clash saw properties destroyed and many injured.

The court presided over by Samuel Quansah Buabeng has since issued a bench warrant for 62 others. Head of Legal and Prosecution at the Ashanti Regional Police Command ACP Kofi Blagodzi says efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.

The disturbances, which started around 5 pm on Thursday, led to some school and private properties, particularly in front of the unity hall, being vandalized.

The clash at KNUST comes as hall rivalries have received scrutiny in the wake of the violence at Mensah Sarbah Hall.
