Ghanaian giant Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC suffered their third home defeat at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday afternoon in their Ghana Premier League Week 30 clash against Berekum Chelsea.
Kotoko failed to clinch all three points to put them in a pole position to win the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League title after missing out last season.
Chelsea were the better team and had the best chances to take the lead in the opening 45 minutes of the match but failed to make good use of the chances.
The Porcupine Warriors on the other hand couldn’t create enough openings in the first half and missed the few opportunities that came their way.
The first half ended 0-0 and the second half begun in similar fashion.
Chelsea were reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute when Osei Owusu was sent off for an unsporting behaviour.
Nonetheless, the away team, Berekum Chelsea played with confidence and pushed forward till they got the all important goal through Kelvin Obeng.
The striker went past Andrews Apau with ease before bending the ball past Danlad Ibrahim to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes left to play.
No more goals were scored Berekum Chelsea won away at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to put pressure on the Porcupines going into the last games.
Kotoko are still top of the league with 56 points , six better than Medeama who have 50 in second place with a game in hand against Obuasi Ashantigold SC.
The Reds will travel to Tarkwa to play Medeama SC in their next match at the Akoon Park with six points separating the two teams.
