Telecom leader, MTN Ghana on Christmas day, expressed love to nursing mothers at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital.
The network, as part of its corporate social responsibility donated gift hampers to mothers who gave birth on December 25 and December 26 respectively.
18 babies were delivered on December 25 whereas 12 were also delivered on December 26 at KATH, making MTN Ghana give 30 hampers in all, on the Saturday visit.
The contents of the hampers were baby towels, oil, powder, soap, diapers, toys, and other essential baby needs.
MTN has shared in the joy of new mothers across the country, in the yuletide, through this exercise started in 2011.
Speaking to Fox FM Online after the donation, Acting General Manager for MTN Northern Sector, Mrs. Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng intimated that: “We at MTN believe in relationship, sharing, and as part of our corporate social responsibility, every year on December 25th and 26th we reach out to newborn babies and their mothers to wish them well. We see the season as a season of giving, and also of love; that even in the midst of Covid-19, MTN counted it very important to still reach out to our dear mothers and lovely babies on December 25th December 26th to show them the MTN kind of love.”
She continued that: “We may not be able to do everything that everyone requires but on occasions like these, as it is the mood of sharing, we believe we can show appreciation to our customers and also to the entire nation and so as I’m speaking now, this is going on all around the nation, everywhere a baby has been born on these two days, MTN is out there showing love. For us, it means that we care for the society.”
The MTN Ag. General Manager further used the opportunity to extend compliments of the season to all its customers, even as the whole world battles the effects of Covid-19.
“We want to wish all our customers, a Merry Christmas and also thank them for how far they’ve brought us in the midst of Covid-19. We’ve seen the support that we’ve gained from our customers and also to the media especially. When we had to do any event within Covid-19, you were there to support us. We’re looking forward to a great working relationship with both our customers and all stakeholders as well into 2021.”
On KATH’s part, a Nurse-in-Charge, Esther Nkrumah at Recovery Ward, appreciated MTN’s efforts at relieving the burden of some nursing mothers. She also admonished the mothers to take good care of their babies and moreover stick to the 6-months exclusive breastfeeding campaign.
Some of the mothers, Lucy Afriyie and Vivian Adu who received the items were equally very excited and praised MTN Ghana for the kind gesture.
