The police inspector who allegedly killed his girlfriend at Adum, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has said he did not intend to kill the deceased.

Ahmed Twumasi who made his first appearance on Tuesday (25 April) at the Asokore Mampong Court following his arrest over the weekend said, “I did not intend to kill her…What happened is between me and God.”

Twumasi has since been provisionally charged with murder as investigations continue. He was not represented by a lawyer. Family members who flocked to the court burst into tears as the prosecution read the charge sheet in the open court.

Presenting the facts of the case police prosecutor ACP Kofi Blagodzi said the complainant Emmanuel Oppong is the brother of the deceased.

He said on Thursday (20 April), Oppong placed a call to the police that his sister has been shot and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). Police proceeded to the hospital, and it was established that the deceased was brought in dead.

Police investigations have established that the suspect, attached to the Special Weapons and Tactic Unit (SWAT) at the Ashanti Regional Police Command called the girl from her home through a female friend known as Eunice to settle some issues.

It then emerged that in the middle of the conversation that the suspect asked the deceased to refund his 5000 cedis owed him. The suspect who became angry after the deceased failed to produce the said amount pulled his service gun and shot the deceased in the chest and abdomen multiple times.

CCTV footage captured the entire scene, prosecution revealed. The suspect later went into hiding after committing the act. He was later arrested, charged and brought before the court.

The prosecution after reading the facts of the case prayed the court to remand the suspect in police custody.

The court presided over by Samuel Buabin Quansah consequently adjourned the case to 30 May and remanded the suspect into police custody. His plea was not taken.
