The Management of Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) in the Ashanti Region has announced the temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment plant and its Achiase Booster.

This is due to a major burst on the 36” (900mm) transmission line that supplies water to a significant portion of the Kumasi metropolis, the company said in a statement on Friday (12 July).

The statement disclosed that the transmission line was damaged by equipment used by a contractor involved in the construction of drains from the Suame roundabout to the Breman Ahenfo route.

This incident has affected the water supply to several key areas including Suame, Tafo/Pankrono, Asokwa, Bantama, Sokoban, Kronum, Barekese, Manhyia, Oforikrom, Kwadaso, Atasamanso, Kotwi, Adum, KNUST, Odoum, Asokore Mampong, and surrounding communities.

GWL assured the public that its engineering team is working tirelessly to repair the damaged transmission line promptly. They emphasized that water supply will resume immediately upon completion of the repairs.

“The Management of Ghana Water Ltd (GWL), Ashanti Region, wishes to inform its cherished customers and the public that there has been a major burst on the 36” (900mm) transmission line that serves a greater part of the Kumasi metropolis.
