One person has been confirmed dead, and three others were rescued after a one-storey building collapsed at the Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi during the early hours of Sunday, October 20, 2024.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that its Kejetia Fire crew responded promptly to the distress call at 2:45 a.m., arriving to find four workers trapped beneath the rubble.

Following a swift and coordinated rescue operation, three of the trapped individuals were safely pulled out alive. Unfortunately, one person was found lifeless at the scene.

The body of the deceased was retrieved and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and further investigation.

GNFS has reiterated the importance of strict adherence to safety standards at construction sites, emphasizing that such incidents highlight the critical role of emergency responders in saving lives.

“The swift response from our team ensured three lives were saved. However, this tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the need for all construction projects to comply with safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the GNFS stated.

Investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing.
