Suspected Chinese illegal mining operative Aisha Huang is married to a Ghanaian businessman, her defense lawyer, Nkrabea Effah Dartey has revealed.

“I know she is married to a Ghanaian. I know this because of her Ghanaian husband, a businessman in Kumasi and a master’s degree holder from a Chinese University. He came to my office to engage me as a lawyer”, Dartey told Kumasi-based Otec FM.

Exit from Ghana in 2018

Aisha is facing an Accra Court for violating the country’s mining laws, including purchasing and sale of minerals without permit.

There are however widening controversies surrounding her exit from the country after she was initially arrested for committing similar offences. An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday heard that Aisha Huang was “arrested for similar offence but managed sneaked out of the country after having changed details on her Chinese passport”.

She again sneaked back into Ghana early in 2022, according to facts presented by the prosecutors in court on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

“The first accused again resumed the small-scale mining activities without license and together with 2nd, 3rd and 4th accused persons are also into the purchase and sale of minerals in Accra without valid authority”, the prosecution had told the court.

Blatant falsehood

But her defense lawyer Nkrabea Effa Dartey has described the prosecution’s submission as false and inacurrate.

“This cannot be true. Aisha was never declared a persona non-grata. Why is officialdom trying to shy away from what happened? Why are different impressions being created? She [Aisha] told me that, they put her on a flight back to China”, Nkrabea Effah Dartey said in an interview with Citi FM.
