Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has criticized National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama for avoiding a presidential debate ahead of the 2024 elections.

At the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Dr. Bawumia suggested that Mahama’s reluctance to debate stems from the NPP’s strong performance in various sectors. He implied that Mahama, being a former president and a history student, recognizes the NPP’s achievements, which may be contributing to his hesitancy.

Dr. Bawumia further argued that Mahama’s avoidance of the debate reflects a lack of courage and confidence to compare his plans directly with Bawumia’s vision for Ghana.

“It is clear from the data we’ve presented that our performance and track record surpass those of my opponent and his party. In nearly every sector, we lead. As a former president and a student of history, Mahama knows this, which is one reason he’s avoiding a debate,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He added, “Another reason could be his lack of courage and confidence to present his vision and plans alongside mine. The choice we are offering Ghanaian voters on December 7 is clear: compare his plans with the vision I have for Ghana and the roadmap to achieve it.”
