John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to ensure complete transparency and accountability if elected to office. Speaking at a town hall meeting on August 12, Mahama highlighted the critical need for accountability among public officials, emphasizing that those in government positions are expected to serve the nation and answer for their actions.
Mahama asserted that any public officeholder who misuses their position should anticipate being held accountable. He also advised that individuals seeking personal enrichment should turn to the private sector rather than public service.
“If people want to come into government and make money then we can’t help you, go into the private sector. We will help you set up a cassava processing plant, go and process cassava, employ young people, don’t come and take public office,” he said.
Mahama further acknowledged the difficulties in prosecuting members of his own party or government but underscored the importance of accountability and tackling corruption.
