The Office of the President has officially announced the termination of board memberships for statutory boards, corporations, commissions, and councils following the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama.
This move is in line with the provisions of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), which outlines the procedures following a change in leadership.
In a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson for the President, it was confirmed that all individuals previously appointed to serve on these boards by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or former Ministers of State ceased to hold office as of January 7, 2025, the date of President Mahama’s swearing-in.
The statement further highlighted that the reconstitution of the affected bodies will occur in due course, as per their respective enabling laws. However, it also clarified that commissions which are independent constitutional creations are excluded from this change.
President Mahama also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the outgoing members for their commitment and service to the country, wishing them the best in their future endeavors.
The notice also instructed the management of these statutory bodies to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before taking any actions, pending the reorganization of their boards.
