Scores of NDC delegates in the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency of the Ashanti Region stormed the Jubilee Park seeking the intervention of John Mahama to resolve tensions within the party.
Mr Mahama was addressing a mammoth rally after a sensitisation walk when the placard-wielding polling station executives made their way to the rally grounds. Some of the inscriptions detail how a deep-seated division is threatening electoral fortunes in that Constituency.
Abdullai Mohammed, a polling station executive at Buoho Electoral Area accused the party leadership including the constituency chairman of schemed attempts to destabilize their fold.
“We have fought hard in the party”, said Mohammed who tried to catch the eye of the former president with his placard during the interview. “But as we speak our chairman and his executives have sidelined us. One of our members went to contest as an assemblyman, and the executives campaigned against him that he is NPP”.
“The chairman’s conduct is sinking NDC in Afigya Kwabre and that is why we are here to send a message to Mr Mahama that we need transparency. NDC is weak in Afigya Kwabre South”, he added.
The sensitization walk is to raise awareness for the party’s ambitious 24-hour Economy Policy in the Ashanti Region. Originally planned for December 2023, the walk was postponed due to elections.
Wednesday’s procession traversed Kumasi’s main streets, culminating at the Kumasi Jubilee Park, with notable NDC figures participating.
As part of his activities, Mr Mahama will engage with various community sectors during the ‘Building the Ghana We Want Tour,’ aiming to communicate his vision and gather feedback from the grassroots.
