Staff at the Mampong Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region are resisting the closure of a path leading to the facility’s main maternity unit by authorities at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College.

The health workers say the blocked route has exposed them to various security risks as some of their colleagues have been attacked by unknown assailants.

The situation has also affected healthcare delivery, as accessing the maternity unit has now become a pilgrimage.

“The hospital is a twin hospital and the road that has been blocked is the main road that links the two hospitals together. It is impeding the exchange of goods and services between the maternity wing and the general wing”, an aggrieved staff told Citi FM.

“Our staff live behind the gate, and they are always not able to get to attend to emergencies on time, so we want management to address this issue so that there will be peace between the staff and the people in the neighbourhood”, the health worker said.

Dailymailgh.com is learning that authorities are racing to resolve the impasse as the angry health workers threaten to lay down their tools on Monday (14 August) over the development.
