A Circuit Court in Wa, on Thursday October 10, 2019, sentenced a 25-year-old man to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.
He has been named as Salifu Issahaka, a vulcanizer who resides at Kabanye, a suburb of Wa in the Upper West Region.
The convict was also found guilty of causing unlawful harm by the court presided over by His Honor Justice Baah Forson.
The court heard that Salifu Issahaka was arrested by the police on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Dobile, also a suburb of Wa— after he was spotted by occupants of a house in a failed break-in.
Armed with a machete and other offensive weapons, the convict— who was given a hot chase, slashed a victim on his left and right thumb in a struggle but was subdued by the charged crowd.
A search conducted on him revealed offensive weapons and other connected criminal items which were used to commit the act.
He was rearrested by the police and later appeared before the Wa Circuit Court, tried and found guilty of charges.
In a statement however, the Upper West Regional Police Command warned residents, particularly the youth to desist from such acts and enter into productive ventures.
While urging residents to provide credible information on persons with criminal intent, the command said it will deal ruthlessly with anybody who perpetrate crime in the area.
