Two-time Member of Parliament (MP) for the Manhyia North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Collins Owusu Amankwah has submitted his nomination papers for the upcoming internal elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The filing process, which took place at the party’s office on Sunday (24 December) witnessed the presence of four out of seven Electoral Area Coordinators representing key voting communities like Krofrom East, Duase-Dote Quarry, Buokrom Estate, and Moshie Zongo.
Hon Amankwah arrived at the party’s office at 4 pm, intending to fulfil the party’s election regulations with minimal fanfare. However, the enthusiastic Electoral Area Coordinators, who got wind of the filing process, joined him to show their support.
Speaking to the media, the former MP explained that his decision to seek re-election stemmed from a desire to complete the transformational agenda he initiated during his previous term.
He also underscored the importance of continuing infrastructural projects, including road development and the provision of ICT tools in public schools. Additionally, he emphasized his commitment to youth empowerment through skills training for self-employment.
“I promise to restore the constituency to the agenda where everyone mattered and had a say in the development process of their communities and to also create avenues of employment for the despondent youth and others so that Manhyia North can become a transformed society,” Hon Amankwah stressed.
The Election Committee urged all aspirants to conduct themselves appropriately in the lead-up to the vetting process and beyond.
The submission of nomination papers marks the beginning of a crucial phase for Hon Collins Owusu Amankwah as he embarks on the journey towards re-election, hoping to secure the support of the party and constituents for his vision of a transformed Manhyia North.
The governing New Patriotic Party has slated 27 January 2024 for the parliamentary primaries. It is the last election to be held in constituencies with sitting MPs.
The vetting process is scheduled to take place from the 3rd to the 5th of January 2024, sources say.
