Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced plans to develop an “Airport City” in the Manhyia North Constituency in Kumasi, promising residents the economic benefits that such a development could bring.
Speaking to voters in Sepe on Wednesday (6 November), as part of his tour of the Ashanti Region, Dr Bawumia underscored his commitment to advancing infrastructure and economic opportunities for the area, should he be elected president.
“We want to establish an Airport City here in Manhyia North so that you will gain some benefits,” Dr Bawumia told the crowd, adding that he led discussions with the UK government regarding the new Kumasi airport project.
“Just as we have an Airport City in Accra, we want to have one here in Kumasi,” he said, indicating the potential for job creation and economic development in the region.
Encouraging the constituents to support his bid for the presidency, Dr Bawumia assured them of transparency and accountability throughout his tenure if elected.
“If you vote for me, by the grace of God, I can be president for eight years, and I will come back here and give accounts of my work,” he pledged, expressing his hope to earn their trust and support at the polls.
“Promote me and let me be the president. Give me the steer and let me drive,” he appealed.
The tour of the Manhyia North Constituency concluded on Day 3 of his tour of the Ashanti Region. Dr Bawumia’s campaign team says the 15-day tour aims to solidify his base in the governing party’s stronghold, which is targeting an 85 per cent voter turnout to retain power.
