The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II says his office will soon invite chiefs whose lands have been destroyed by activities of illegal miners, for questioning.
The Asante Monarch is of the view that such chiefs should be concerned about the negative impact of illegal mining which in recent times have ravaged their lands and in some cases claimed lives.
“Next year, any Chief whose lands have been invaded will have to be summoned and questioned. If we visit your land and it has been destroyed by ‘galamsey’ activities, we will question why you watched unconcerned for the lands and water bodies under your custody to be harmed.
And if you’re unable to give valid reasons, we will sanction you so you learn a lesson and protect your land from the havoc,” Otumfuo stated during a meeting with the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday (December 14) in Kumasi.
