A serious manhunt has been launched for the killers of a police officer in the Central Region town of Mankessim, officials say.
The Ghana Police Service has also announced a GHS10,000 bounty for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Affairs Unit of the Central Regional Police Command.
The incident occurred at about 4am — hours after a separate fuel station attack left two other officers injured.
They are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The deceased officer, Lance Corporal Kingsley who was not on duty, was found with gunshot wounds at about 200 metres away from a nearby crime scene.
Public Relations Officer DSP Irene Oppong said investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh, led a delegation to Mankessim to commiserate with family of the deceased officer.
“So far we have visited both scenes of the crime. We have had an initial crime scene and another crime scene team has arrived from Accra to beef up and support the regional crime scene that is here. So as time goes on and as investigations proceed whatever we get will let Ghanaians know,” the IGP stated.
The deceased left behind a wife and a seven-year-old daughter.
