Private air charter provider McDan Aviation has denied claims of owing $3 million to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), a debt allegedly linked to the closure of its private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport.

According to McDan Aviation, $2 million of the reported amount relates to a disputed land transaction with GACL, which is currently tied up in litigation.

Speaking to Channel One News, Kweku Ampromfi, CEO of the McDan Group, explained the situation:

> “We do not owe $3 million at the terminal. There are three things we have been discussing with Ghana Airports Company. The terminal is one. We also have a piece of land we acquired from them near the Action Chapel area, for which they demand ground rights.”

Ampromfi clarified that the bulk of the alleged debt arises from the land acquisition.

> “The land is about $2 million thereabout. However, the same land was acquired by a third party who secured documentation through the Lands Commission, so it is under litigation. We have communicated several times to GACL that because it’s under litigation, it doesn’t make business sense to pay any hefty sums until the legal issues are resolved.”

He added that the company had already made partial payments on terminal charges and was hopeful for a resolution that would allow the terminal to reopen soon.

GACL, however, has maintained that McDan Aviation owes over $3 million, including land leases, rentals, and terminal charges accrued over time. The agency enforced the closure of the private jet terminal after a Christmas deadline for payment passed without full settlement.

This is not the first time McDan Aviation’s operations have faced challenges. In February 2022, GACL indefinitely barred the company from operating at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport due to alleged operational breaches.

McDan Aviation, which launched its private jet services on January 28, 2022, remains optimistic about resolving the current dispute with GACL.
