Mensah-Korsah: NDC thugs stopped collation when I was leading by more than 7,000 votes

Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah, the Member of Parliament for Techiman South, has addressed the confusion surrounding the constituency’s election results.

The delayed announcement by the Electoral Commission has sparked tensions, with both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claiming victory.

“I am leading by over 7,000 votes after collating 141 polling stations”, he told Accra-based Asempa FM adding that the NPP collation showed he secured a clear victory.

“I have evidence on my pink sheet. I carefully calculated the results with my team,” he explained, emphasizing their commitment to accuracy. To ensure the integrity of the process, Mensah-Korsah’s team duplicated the pink sheets, keeping a copy before submitting the original to the Electoral Commission for validation.

The MP described how the situation escalated into violence, alleging that NDC supporters disrupted the collation process, claiming their candidate had won. “NDC thugs stormed the venue and truncated collation,” he alleged. “My chairman was severely beaten during the disturbances and is currently receiving medical care. It was a terrible experience.”

After the tensions eased, Mensah-Korsah and his team returned to the collation center to review the results. However, the situation reignited as NDC supporters allegedly returned to the venue, destroying Electoral Commission materials and accusing the Commission of intentionally delaying the announcement to favour Mensah-Korsah’s candidacy.

“The police tried their best to manage the situation, but they were overwhelmed by the numbers of NDC supporters present,” Mensah-Korsah observed. Despite these challenges, he maintained that the NPP’s collation shows a victory margin of over 3,000 votes.

The MP urged calm, urging all parties to trust the process. “We are confident in the Electoral Commission to ensure transparency and fairness. Let us maintain peace as the process unfolds,” he appealed.
