Former Ghana international Michael Essien has expressed high praise for Mohammed Kudus, foreseeing a promising future for the young player.
Essien, known for his illustrious career at Chelsea and Real Madrid, remarked on Kudus’s potential, stating, “I rate him very highly, and he’s got everything to be at the top. He is a good footballer, and he has everything to go to the top,” during an interview with talkSPORT.
Having risen through the ranks at Lyon before joining Chelsea, Essien understands the journey to the pinnacle of football. He achieved considerable success, winning multiple titles including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the League Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.
Comparably, Mohammed Kudus has shown promise since his move to West Ham United from Ajax Amsterdam a year ago. The 23-year-old had an impressive debut season in the English Premier League, tallying 14 goals and six assists across all competitions.
Recently, speculation has surrounded Kudus’s future, with reports suggesting Manchester United are eyeing him to bolster their attacking options amid goal-scoring challenges. The Red Devils are reportedly willing to spend £60 million on a new forward, following the departure of Antony Martial.
Although Manchester United initially pursued Kudus before he joined West Ham, they opted for Antony instead. However, with Antony’s inconsistent performances, Kudus has emerged as a viable target once again.
West Ham secured Kudus’s services for £38 million, and he still has four years remaining on his current contract, indicating any potential transfer would come at a significant cost. The Hammers are known for their tough negotiating stance, exemplified by their demand of £105 million from Arsenal for Declan Rice’s transfer last year.
Kudus’s trajectory suggests a bright future in football, supported by endorsements from seasoned professionals like Michael Essien, who recognizes his potential to excel at the highest levels of the game.
