The Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Decentralisation Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has announced stringent measures against contractors delaying projects at Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Addressing Assembly staff, members, and the media during a tour of Asokwa Municipality early this week, the Minister emphasized the need to curb the attitude toward project delays.

“I have suggested to the government that it terminates the contracts of persons who delay projects beyond timelines contrary to what it agreed upon between the MMDAs so that it serves the lesson because this attitude retards progress and the development of the country”, the Minister stressed.

Commending Asokwa Municipal Assembly for its exemplary performance under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP), which is funded by the World Bank, Minister Mensah Korsah highlighted Asokwa’s proactive stance in implementing phases 4 and 5 of the program.

“In the Ashanti Region, Asokwa stands out as the only Municipal Assembly to have commenced phases 4 and 5 of the GSCSP projects, which is highly commendable,” remarked the Minister.

During the tour, Minister Mensah Korsah inspected several project sites, including the construction of banking halls and offices for rental purposes at the Assembly premises, the Ahinsan-Ahinsan Estate Road, the Tonpeg-Gyinyase road, and the ongoing construction of the Chirapatre market road.

Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s visit, highlighting its significance in assessing project implementation and motivating the Assembly to maintain high standards. He underscored the importance of the Minister’s oversight in ensuring accountability and progress within the Municipality.

“We appreciate the Minister’s visit, which not only evaluates our ongoing projects but also motivates us to maintain our pace of development under the GSCSP,” said the MCE.
