An aspiring Member of Parliament is promising to retain the Tafo-Pankrono Constituency seat for the ruling New Patriotic Party if voted as parliamentary candidate.
Dr E K Obeng said he is not anxious about the outcome of the upcoming parliamentary primaries on April 25, seeing that he is the right man to effect a change through job creation to better the life of constituents.
He made the comment after he submitted his nomination form at the party’s constituency office at Old-Tafo Mile 4 in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
Asked why he sounded confident in his address to delegates, the CEO of the Trinity Hospital courageously concluded that he stands favourite among the rest.
“I am their preferred candidate”, he said.
Dr Obeng is battling with five other aspirants to succeed the incumbent MP and Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei — who has served on the ticket of the ruling party for over a decade.
“My decision to contest is simple. They know what I have done in this constituency. So when Dr Akoto said he is not contesting again then it dong on me to come and help the people of this constituency”, he explained.
Hundreds of delegates thronged the party office amid drumming and dancing as he submitted his nomination forms to the constituency election committee.
He counselled the delegates that regardless of the contest to choose one person to represent the constituency in the December 7 elections, the New Patriotic Party is an embodiment of peace therefore they should refrain from disputes that will offend and upset candidates.
“My advise to the delegates is that we are one people. We are a family of NPP so they should do away with words that would defame other opponents,” he uttered.
NPP Primaries slated for April 25
The ruling party will be electing a presidential candidate on April 25, ahead of Ghana’s general elections on December 7, 2020.
The party will also be electing parliamentary candidates in various constituencies the same day.
Many potential candidates have already filed their nomination forms ahead of the contest.
