The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has strongly condemned the decision of the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, to terminate the employment of nearly 100 staff members at Ghana Post.
During an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Tuesday, March 25, Opoku labeled the action as unjust and questioned the rationale behind the “resetting theme” advocated by President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
The dismissals, authorized by Samuel Nartey George, were reportedly due to irregularities in the recruitment process. According to the minister, this decision is part of a broader initiative to streamline operations within the ministry and its affiliated agencies.
However, Opoku has strongly opposed the move, arguing that it unfairly impacts individuals who secured their positions through proper channels.
“I think the minister is overstepping his bounds, and I wonder if this whole resetting is necessary to the extent that people whose employment dates back before December 7 are even getting their employment terminated,” he remarked.
“These are not political appointments; these are persons who went through the proper HR processes as laid down in these various agencies and got employed. So what precedent are we setting in this country?” Opoku further questioned.
His remarks highlight growing concerns about job security and the implications of the minister’s actions on employees who may have been legally and fairly hired.
