MTN Ghana leads the country’s telecom market with 29.87mn registered SIM cards, accounting for 74.8% of the total registered in the West African country, according to data from the National Communications Authority (NCA).
The NCA, which completed a mass SIM registration exercise in May 2023, reported a total of 39.9mn SIM cards registered nationwide, reports Tech Labari.
The initiative aimed to create a SIM database with integrity.
As of June 14, 2024, the number of active registered SIMs – defined by the International Telecommunications Union as SIMs active within a 90-day period – stood at 39,941,127, according to the Central SIM Register.
Telecel followed MTN with 6.16mn registered SIMs, capturing 15.4% of the market, while AT Ghana held 3.91mn SIMs, and Telesol accounted for 1,150 SIMs.
