The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has staunchly defended Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, stating that he is not “arrogant.”

This statement comes after Dr. Opoku Prempeh was unanimously endorsed as the running mate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, by the party’s National Executive Council.

Speaking at the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday (9 July), during the official outdooring of Dr. Opoku Prempeh as the running mate, Otumfuo expressed his support and offered his blessings. “I will pray for you to achieve what you want,” he said, adding, “You [Napo] are not arrogant. Don’t let what people say become true.”

The Asantehene further advised Napo to remain loyal and obedient to his running mate, Dr. Bawumia. “Don’t let Dr. Bawumia regret selecting you as his running mate. Be humble and submissive to him,” he emphasized. He also urged Dr. Bawumia to mentor Napo diligently. “Train him [Napo], and when he goes wrong, tell me, and I will advise him,” Otumfuo added.

The NPP officially outdoored Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh at an event held at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, underscoring the party’s unity and strategic direction ahead of the upcoming elections.
