The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) is calling for the removal of Dr. Haggar Hilda Ampadu from her position as Executive Director of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NASIA).
NAGRAT alleges that NASIA has not effectively collaborated with teacher unions and questions the authority’s decision to have non-Ghana Education Service personnel conduct school inspections.
NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu criticized Dr. Ampadu’s leadership, stating, “One wonders whether it’s right for the Inspector to be the one to collect fees and charges. And again, I have never seen the report that NASIA is supposed to bring out quarterly on the inspection work that they have done. It looks as if the leader of NASIA as of now does not understand the job that is being given to her.”
Carbonu further urged the government to replace Dr. Ampadu with a more competent individual, saying, “We humbly plead with the government to change her and get a more competent person to manage NASIA and see how we operate in that area.” He also highlighted the lack of communication, noting, “Since that agency was formed, it has never had any meetings with the representatives of the teachers in this country, and I’m talking about the unions.
There has not been a single meeting. We have reached out to the head of NASIA, the leadership, all these years, and we’re talking about six years now, zero, no meeting.”
