Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Education Minister, is leading efforts to promote girl child education in Ghana.
He called on citizens to actively support girls in achieving academic success, emphasizing the importance of empowering them to reach their full potential.
“May we be encouraged to inspire our young girls to take their education seriously, by giving them the opportunities and space to make informed choices and achieve their maximum potential as future leaders of our country,” Prempeh wrote in a Facebook post marking International Girl Child Day, themed “Girl’s Vision for the Future.”
He highlighted the critical role women play in national development, aligning the theme with Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s vision for progress driven by the voices of young girls.
Referencing Dr. Kwegyir Aggrey’s famous quote—“If you educate a man, you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation”—Prempeh commended the Akufo-Addo administration’s achievements in improving enrollment of girls at various educational levels.
“Under this government’s Free Senior High School programme, we have been able to leapfrog access to bring enrollment of girls to be at par with boys’ enrollment at senior high school level. This is significant development for our nation,” he noted.
Prempeh stressed the need for continuous efforts to maintain gender parity and ensure every girl has the opportunity to pursue education, reflecting on the progress made under the NPP administration.
