Manhyia South MP Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka NAPO on Monday (December 26) sent gift boxes to widows and senior citizens in his Constituency to mark this year’s Boxing Day.
The items including bags of rice, vegetable oil, mackerel, beverages, and sugar among others, were presented to some 235 selected widows, senior citizens and the poor in all electoral areas within the Constituency to support them during the festive season.
The Director of Operations at the National Youth Wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Joe Duffour Jnr led a mobile team to present the items on behalf of the lawmaker.
“The MP had already reached out to over 500 people in the Constituency on two occasions this festive season. For this one, we carefully selected the widows, widowers and senior citizens within the Constituency to present these items to them. This is to remind such people that they are in our thoughts and prayer and that reaching out to them is in order”, Duffour said during a brief interview with the media.
The beneficiaries could not hide their joy when they received the items.
Afua Boatemaa, a 64-year-old woman is excited at the gifts.
“May God bless NAPO with good health and long life to be doing this for us every year. I always depend on my children for Christmas celebrations, but this year, even if they do not come, I can still enjoy Christmas,” she said.
“I am very excited today. Things would have been difficult for me this year. “I did not have all these items but now that I have gotten them, I am good to go. May the Lord bless Dr NAPO,” said Martha Oduro, another beneficiary.
Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated after Christmas Day, occurring on the second day of Christmastide. It originated as a holiday to give gifts to the poor.
