Members of the Ashanti Regional women’s wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress have called out their leader Gloria Huze after she paid to pick up nomination forms for former Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Kwabena Duffour.
The group made up of all 47 constituency women organizers in the region were reacting to claims by Madam Huze that they contributed some amounts to support Dr Duffour’s presidential bid.
Madam Huze on Thursday (February 23) led a charged crowd to the party’s national headquarters to pick forms for Dr Duffour ahead of the presidential race. She had indicated that the entire women’s wing in the region supports the decision of the former Finance Minister under the John Evans Atta Mills’ regime.
But addressing a press conference the Deputy Regional Women’s Organiser, Phyllis Manu Manassian, described the claims made by Madam Huze as blatant falsehood and must be treated with the contempt it deserves. They have also called on the party hierarchy to call their leader to order.
“All that we are saying is that it is false that all constituency Women’s Organizers have endorsed the candidature of Dr Kwabena Duffuor. We don’t have anything to do with it, and we don’t agree with what she did or said”, Manu said.
She added: “We have party structures, and we are seeking our national executives to take steps to sanction her for what she did, and we want the leadership of the party to do all that is good to hand her sanctions to suit what she did.”
Dr Duffour is eyeing the presidency as the opposition party searches for a flagbearer ahead of the 2024 polls. He joins former President John Mahama and former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu in a fierce contest.
