NDC files court injunction to block EC from printing Amenfi Central ballots

0

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has submitted an injunction application aimed at stopping the Electoral Commission (EC) from printing parliamentary ballot papers and issuing the notice of poll for the Amenfi Central constituency.

This move comes after the EC recently disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency. Her disqualification follows an interlocutory injunction issued by the Sekondi High Court, which prohibits the EC from recognizing her as the party’s candidate for the December 7 elections.

The court’s injunction is connected to an unresolved lawsuit concerning Cudjoe’s eligibility, which has not yet been resolved or overturned. As a result, she remains barred from participating in the parliamentary election.

The NDC argues that proceeding with the printing of the ballot papers without first resolving the legal matters surrounding Cudjoe’s disqualification would violate her legal rights and disrupt due process.

In its application, the NDC has asked the court to issue an order preventing the EC from printing or distributing ballot materials for the Amenfi Central constituency until the legal disputes over Cudjoe’s candidacy have been fully addressed.

This situation introduces additional challenges to the party’s campaign efforts in the constituency as the election day draws near.
