The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Elikplim Akurugu, has donated to several groups in the constituency to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Elikplim Akurugu presented gallons of hand sanitizers, Veronica buckets, jumbo size tissues, liquid soap among others.

The items were presented to traders at the Dome Market, Taifa Market, all lorry stations and taxi ranks across the constituency, police stations and the Taifa polyclinic.

The people expressed gratitude to the parliamentary candidate for her thoughtful gesture.

“This is what we call leadership,” the visibly elated Queen Mother of the Dome New Market Association said.

“We’re not in normal times and for someone in opposition to really take the first step to think about our safety and wellbeing what else should we wait for than give her the opportunity to represent us in Parliament.”

“Sometimes, I wonder if this constituency has a sitting MP at all. We have an MP who only visits us once when election is up. We’ve been taken for granted for far too long and I’ve no doubt Elikplim is the best if we really want to see development in this area,” a taxi driver, Abeiku Dickson, said after the donation.

In her brief remarks to the people, Elikplim Akurugu advised them to adhere to all the health tips to stay safe from the coronavirus.

“We must all comply with the directive of the World Health Organisation; wash your hands with soap regularly under running water, cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and practice social distancing,” she stated.

“The virus is no respecter of persons. It doesn’t know an NPP person or NDC person. We must all keep our environments clean. Let’s watch our movements too and only go out when it is really critical,” the PC stressed.
